From a doctor at St Thomas' Hospital

You were among the first people I encountered at Tommy's. I'd only just moved to London, having spent two years in South Africa and you were one of the few people who really made an effort to befriend me. You really had an amazing ability to tease out people's attributes and make them think that they were worth something and could achieve anything that they wanted. That was a reflection of the fact that you had done just that. I hadn't realised how much you had done with your life as you were incredibly modest with it. I smile writing this as I frequently remember how you pretended to be this big kid with bravado and while the big kid thing was completely true, the bravado bit was a stark contrast to how you actually were. In the few short months that I knew you, I counted you as an incredibly dear friend. I remember saying to you when I last saw you in the pub in Kennington (where else?) that you were like a big brother to me and I think you were perplexed that I insinuated that you were older than me! As sad as I am writing this, I feel privileged to have known you and now realise that we can all achieve our dreams if we put our mind to it.
